DPO (Data Protection Officer)

A designated individual responsible for overseeing data protection strategy and compliance within an organization.

A Data Protection Officer (DPO) is a leadership role required by GDPR for certain organizations. A DPO must be appointed when: the processing is carried out by a public authority, the core activities require large-scale systematic monitoring of individuals, or the core activities consist of large-scale processing of special category data. The DPO's responsibilities include: informing and advising the organization on data protection obligations, monitoring compliance, providing advice on DPIAs, cooperating with the supervisory authority, and acting as a contact point for data subjects. The DPO must operate independently and cannot be dismissed for performing their duties.
